WORKS ON PAPER

In my Works on Paper collection, spanning from 1984 to the present, I discover a unique freedom that canvas rarely affords. Paper becomes not just a medium, but a sanctuary for uninhibited artistic expression. There's an intrinsic permission in paper that invites bolder creative risks and more intimate revelations. I allow the paper as a medium of artistic liberation. paper as a medium of artistic liberation

Unlike the assertive surface of gessoed canvas, paper becomes an active participant in the creative process – each sheet possessing its own character, weight, and voice. Perhaps it's the medium's inherent humility, its everyday nature, that allows for such creative liberation. On paper, the weight of artistic pretense falls away, leaving pure expression in its wake.

The relationship between pigment and paper creates an alchemical marriage where materials transcend their basic nature. Paint doesn't merely rest on the surface but becomes one with the fiber, creating subtle migrations and unexpected harmonies. The paper's inherent properties guide the flow of color, resulting in works where medium and artist engage in a delicate dance of intention and discovery.

This freedom manifests in broader expressions and more daring explorations. Paper's forgiving nature creates a safe harbor for artistic risk-taking, allowing me to push boundaries and explore new territories of expression. Each piece becomes a testament to the liberation found in embracing paper's unique properties – its ability to absorb rather than reflect, to whisper rather than shout, to invite rather than demand.

Through these works, I celebrate both paper's ancient legacy and its endless capacity for contemporary expression. Each piece in this collection represents a moment in a four-decade journey of discovering how the humble power of paper can unleash the boldest artistic freedoms.
